First and foremost, why use Slackware64 Linux 13.1 when Slackware64 Linux 13.37 (leet) is available? Well, X.org in 13.37 has that nasty occasional tantrum of crashing in this notebook / laptop. Since Slackers are also known for their obsession with stability and functionality, I'd recommend that you use Slackware64 13.1 on this notebook / laptop instead(it does not have the crashing problem ). First and foremost, I was misinformed by some flyers about this notebook / laptop computer. They told me it was armed with an Intel 950 based onboard video system (which I'm very comfortable with in Slackware), but it turns out to be a SiS based video system! Specifically, X.org reports it as "(--) PCI:*(0:1:0:0) 1039:6351:1462:4360 Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 771/671 PCIE VGA Display Adapter rev 16, Mem @ 0xc0000000/268435456, 0xfdee0000/131072, I/O @ 0x0000cc00/128" in the log file. While everything (including the web camera!) worked in Xubuntu 9.10, the video system needed a little more work. And the best choice for me was a "beta" SiS driver. I was disappointed at first because I've always wanted software in their "stable" or "official" release, but the driver turned out to be not bad. It's pretty stable. There is no 3D support for this driver, but I don't need 3D. So here's how you can setup Xubuntu 9.10 on this laptop:
